Terms and conditions
This competition is open to serving seafarers only. Seafarer means someone currently working on board a ship or at home between contracts.
Photographers of shortlisted entries will be contacted and may be requested to supply images in a larger file size. Images must have a file name and caption and be in JPEG or .heic format. Any entries deemed offensive will be disqualified.
Entries will be judged by a panel of judges appointed by ITFST. Any decisions of the panel in relation to any aspect of the competition are final.
Entrants should request the permission of the subject of their portrait before submitting a photograph.

By submitting an entry, photographers agree to grant the ITFST, free of charge, the right to:
- 1. reproduce and publish submissions in the book, Out of sight, not out of mind; and
- 2. use submissions in any manner and media, including, the right to publish, adapt, distribute, copy, display or translate in printed or electronic media for the purpose of educating and informing the public about the lives and work of seafarers.
- 3. licence third parties to use submissions in the same manner as (2) above.
The ITFST and/or any licensee will not use images submitted for commercial gain unless agreed separately with the ITFST and the photographer(s).
Photographers will be fully credited.
Winning entries will be announced on 25 June 2021, The Day of the Seafarer. The ITFST will make best efforts to contact the winning photographers prior to that date using the contact details provided.
The personal information provided to ITFST by the participants shall only be used for the purposes of this contest as stated in the terms and conditions. All participants and subjects are entitled to access, cancel, oppose and rectify the details about the personal data (such as names, addresses, etc.) contained in the file by sending their request by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
