Seafarers’ Emergency Fund

The Seafarers’ Emergency Fund was established by both the TK Foundation and the ITF Seafarers’ Trust. Administered by the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN), the Fund aimed to provide immediate and essential aid to seafarers, and families of seafarers who are directly involved in sudden and unforeseen crisis. The Fund is available to seafarer welfare organisations and other welfare organisations alike, providing the means to purchase goods and services for seafarers and their dependants.

Each application is considered on its own merits. The funds will be made available to the applying organisation in the shortest time possible. Typically, funds could be granted to cover the costs of psychological counselling, medical expenses, or in some cases, repatriation, but are not intended for long-term maintenance or for situations for which other sources of relief might be available.

If approved, the funds will be made available to the applying organisation, rather than to the individuals. It is hoped that the applying organisation will, where possible, make efforts to recoup the funds from other sources.
