We were delighted to attend the WMU Graduation this weekend to see our scholarship students receive their MSc certificates. Not only did they pass with flying colours, two of our students received special prizes for their achievements.

We are always aware of how hard the students work to complete an MSc in 14 months, so offer our congratulations to all our sponsored students receiving their MSc this year, as shown in the photo above:

  • Mr Lamir Ado Mohammed (Nigeria).
  • Ms. Regina Chokolay Conteh-Khali (Sierra-Leone),
  • Mr Pankaj Kumar (India, who also received the Specialization Prize for the MSc in Maritime Affairs Shipping Management & Logistics),
  • Ms. Mariami Kakabadze (Georgia), and
  • Mr Sergii Kazantsev (Ukraine, who also received the Richard Charvet Scholarship for the best student specializing in Maritime Law and Policy),

Ahead of the formal event, we took the opportunity to bring graduating scholarship students together with our new cohort starting their studies this year - a chance to discuss the unique experience of studying at the WMU, seen here with trustees Brian Orrell and Jacqueline Smith and ITF Seafarers’ Trust Programme Development Manager, Abdulgani Serang.

This year the two WMU Alumni to receive Outstanding Alumni Awards, Ms Judith Enaw (Cameroon, 2000 graduate) and Dr Sajid Hussain (Bangladesh, 1998 graduate) were also beneficiaries of ITFST Scholarships. We are immeasurably proud of our scholarship programme and the positive effect that our graduates have on the wider maritime sector through their own hard work and the inspirational effect of a WMU education.

Finally, an award even closer to home for the Trust was the granting of the title of Honorary Fellow to ITFST Trustee Brian Orrell OBE. Brian’s support to the WMU, and his contributions to the wider maritime sector and his stalwart support for seafarers and other maritime workers speak for themselves.
